Bonnie Gamerman
Artist Bio
Sgraffito is a technique that involves scratching through a surface coating to reveal a contrasting color underneath. I paint three layers of liquid black slip over a white clay body and then scrape away the black to create images. This is a symbiotic relationship between creativity and nature. They clay has not as yet been fired, so one is working withing the fragility of the craft.
My work allows me to explore line, color and design while shaping a raw material into an art form.
During her thirty-year career as a public and private school art teacher, Bonnie explored all mediums with preschoolers to high school students. As she approached retirement from school-based teaching, Bonnie began to follow her interest in working in a museum environment. Hired by the Museum of Fine Arts for its “Artful Adventures” program, Bonnie created and implemented gallery tours and conducted follow-up studio workshops for participating student groups. Focusing on clay is as her passion, Bonnie now works out of a local studio with pieces shown in local galleries and shows. High fired and food safe, Bonnie’s work combines art and utilitarianism.
“My work allows me the freedom to explore all that I love about clay.”
